Let’s use ground water wisely as possible.
IGRAC is the organisation that maintains the United Nation’s groundwater database. I wrote and directed their ‘core story’ which explains why informed groundwater management based on sound data matters a lot to many people.
Stefan Siepman, Communication Consultant at IGRAC, about the collaboration:
“Apart from being a pleasant person to work with, Douwe has two specific qualities that make him stand out. The first is how he, seemingly effortless, manages to translate complex topics into clear storylines. His second strength is how he is able to level with people of all ages, positions, ethnicities and interests. When developing ‘Groundwater, the Hidden Resource’, Douwe had to work with scientists who simply wanted all statements and illustrations to be factually correct while also making the final result appealing to an audience that has little to no knowledge of groundwater. He still managed to find a balance and produce a video that made different groups involved excited.”

Raising awareness on shifts in corporate governance.
Conscious lawyer firm Frank Bold was looking to explain their “Purpose of the Corporation” concept to a wider audience to get across that shareholder primacy doesn’t just have negative effects to people and the environment, but also to the results of corporations themselves.
I develop a one-pager and a short video to explain Frank Bold’s core argument: corporations exist to serve the public good.
Paige Morrow, formerly Head of Brussels Operations at Frank Bold about the collaboration:
“We worked with Douwe to explain the purpose of the corporation through an infographic and short film. Douwe was adept at briefly recounting the history of public companies and translating complex corporate governance concepts into a narrative that is accessible to a non-expert audience. The final products were visually appealing and delivered in a timely manner, resulting in a highly successsful collaboration.”

Making the national pension system work for everyone, a long time into the future
Changing to the Dutch national pension system is a highly sensitive subject, because it impacts all generations in tangible and personal ways.
In this video I formulated FNV’s argument for a collective approach rather than a commercialised one.

Quality medicines for everybody, wherever they live
For Quamed in Antwerp, I developed their core story, which explains the need for better medicines for all.
If you live in a prosperous country, the quality of medicines is rarely an issues; this is very different for many people across the world. Quamed aims to change this situation.

Are you looking to shift opinions and policies to bring about change?
It isn’t easy to balance out the interests of all people who are impacted by the very difficult choices that legislators have to make for their constituents. Some choices seem impossible and change can be very slow. But it is essential that we make clear choices to create a better future for all.
Visual storytelling can help strengthen your argument by taking it out of the realm of complexity and legislative abstractions and into the lives of real people. I can help you get your point across in a powerful, relatable way.
How could storytelling help your cause?
